Maui’s Famous Festivals

Maui’s year-round gorgeous weather and great amenities make it a natural destination for big-name festivals of every stripe. No matter when you come to visit, your trip is likely to coincide with at least one big gathering. Take a look at some of the island’s most popular festivals and then grab your tickets. (Note: Dates and venues may change over time. Always double check details at the source.)

Maui Agricultural Festival – April

Bring your appetite with you to the Maui Agricultural Festival, held the first Saturday of April on the grounds of the Maui Tropical Plantation. This event, hosted by the Maui County Farm Bureau, brings together some of the island’s best chefs and farmers to present their signature dishes. You’ll get to learn lots about Maui’s fierce dedication to sustainable farming, shop at a massive farmer’s market, play games, listen to live music, and – of course – try some delish food!

Maui Film Festival – June

The stars will be out at the Maui Film Festival, both figuratively and literally, during this multi-day festival, which takes place in Wailea. Keep your eyes peeled. You might just catch a glimpse of some famous celebrities, directors, and producers. Even if you don’t, you’ll still get to watch great new films before they are released to the rest of the world. The festival takes place at multiple locations and includes outdoor screenings where you can sit back in your lawn chair for some excellent entertainment. The festival also includes special panels featuring actors and filmmakers, award ceremonies, lots of side parties, and tasty food events.

Kapalua Wine & Food Festival – June

Anyone on Maui who considers themselves even the slightest bit of a foodie and/or connoisseur of vino can’t miss out on the Kapalua Wine & Food Festival, a four-day event that showcases the very best food and wine that our island has to offer. This festival is the longest running food and wine event in the entire United States, and it gets better every year. The festival takes place at the scenic Kapalua Resort, where attendees can sip smooth reds and sweet whites while munching on amazing foodie concoctions designed by the island’s premiere chefs. The festival includes many unique events, including a golf tournament at Kapalua Bay Golf Course, tennis clinics, posh galas, cooking demos, and lessons from world class sommeliers. You’ll be forgiven for over-indulging, but make sure you save room for the Seafood Festival on the last day of the event.

Festivals of Aloha – September/October

If you want to sidestep the normal tourist attractions and really explore the unique history, mythology, and soul of the Hawaiian Islands, then make room in your schedule for the Festivals of Aloha. These take place in different parts of the island between the months of September and October and celebrate traditional Hawaiian culture. You’ll hear lots of traditional songs, watch authentic Hawaiian dances, and see bright, beautiful Hawaiian costumes and dress. You’ll also get to shop for locally made crafts and taste traditional Hawaiian fare. The festivals can include all sorts of fun events, including town parades, fishing tournaments, outdoor movies, talent shows, and more. Check the event site to see which festivals are taking place near you during your stay.

Made in Maui Festival – November

Looking for the perfect authentic Maui keepsake to help you remember your amazing visit? Then stop by the Made in Maui County Festival. The name says it all. This event takes place at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center and brings together lots of talented local craftsmen. All the vendors must be headquartered on Maui, Moloka’I or Lana’I and must use a majority of Hawaiian materials in their products. This is the perfect place to snap up gorgeous jewelry, handmade crafts, brilliant art, and collectibles. You’ll also find lots of food vendors selling authentic Hawaiian treats. This is your one-stop-shop for souvenirs and gives you a great way to support the island.

This list includes only a handful of the many festivals that come to our island each year. If you are booking a vacation rental through Ali’I Resorts, let us known your travel dates and we can tell you what festivals will be happening during your stay.
