How to Enjoy an Awesome Thanksgiving on Maui

Are you spending Turkey Day on our little island? Aloha! We are so happy to have you, and we bet we can make this an amazing Thanksgiving that you and your family (or traveling buds) will never forget. Here’s a few special events and activities that Maui has to offer on Thanksgiving:

Maui Turkey Trot

Need an excuse to gorge yourself guilt-free? Then pack your running shoes and get ready to burn some pre-turkey calories. Every year, the Valley Isle Road Runners, VIRR, hosts a turkey trot at Rice Park in Kula. Depending on how much pain…er, glorious running, you prefer, you can sign up for the 16.2-mile loop or the 8.6-mile race.

Hey, at least it won’t be freezing in the morning. Sorry, turkey trotters in Dearborn, Michigan!

Special Meal at a Local Restaurant

Many of our excellent farm-to-table Maui restaurants offer a special menu just for all of our island guests on Thanksgiving. We can’t possibly list them all here, but some of our favorites are Bistro Molokini, Kimo’s, Monkeypod Kitchen, Mulligan’s, Leoda’s, Mala, Fleetwood’s and so much more. Don’t forget to check in with our big hotels and resorts. The Grand Wailea, Ritz-Carlton, Sheraton, and Kaanapali Beach Hotel all offer special menus as well. Some of these special menus can get a bit pricey, but if you are in the mood for a splurge – both for your tummy and your wallet – you won’t be disappointed!

Thanksgiving Luau

If you want to celebrate Thanksgiving with a special Hawaiian flair, consider a Thanksgiving Luau. The Luau is a cultural tradition on the Hawaiian islands, filled with dance, song, costumes, and – yes—food! Most of Maui’s top Luau venues offer a special Thanksgiving Day celebration that includes turkey along with the more traditional food fare. This is a great choice for the whole family!

Thanksgiving Picnic at the Beach

If you don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on a fancy restaurant meal, but would rather focus on just spending time with your family or favorite traveling companions on this day of thankfulness, then there’s no better way to celebrate Thanksgiving than with a beach picnic. If you are renting a vacation condo, you can do all the cooking in your kitchen and then pack out supplies to the beach. Many of our beaches include beautiful parks with picnic tables.

It might be simple, but it’s still magical to munch on turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce while the ocean waves crash in the background!

At Ali’i Resorts, we would be happy to help all of our guests design a wonderful island Thanksgiving holiday. Give us a call, and we can give you restaurant, beach, and other activity recommendations for Thanksgiving and the other days of your Maui trip!
