Maui is truly special: the light is unreal, the ocean is right there, and whether you’re at the beach or Upcountry, the photos have the best backdrops on Earth. What’s changed is the venue landscape, a lot of older wedding roundups (including ours) mention places that aren’t as simple to book anymore.

So here’s an updated list of three exceptional venues available for booking, plus a quick check in on a few names from that older post so you don’t waste time.

Three amazing and gorgeous places to get married in Maui

Olowalu Plantation House (West Maui)

If you want the classic Maui look, oceanfront lawn, palms, and that tucked away feeling, Olowalu Plantation House is hard to beat. It’s a private estate setting that works especially well for intimate celebrations where you want everything in one place, ceremony, reception, photos, and sunset. See our full breakdown of this impressive property at Olowalu Plantation House review.

Why couples love it:

  • Oceanfront lawn with a big open feel.
  • Private estate vibe, no “public beach roulette.”
  • Great for doing everything in one place.

Good to plan for:

  • Most events follow set time windows, and packages can be structured around guest count.
  • You’ll want a solid planner or coordinator, estates run smoother with one point person. Check out Simple Maui Weddings for experienced planners for small to large weddings.

Kukahiko Estate (South Maui)

Kukahiko is still a standout if your dream wedding includes hearing the ocean while you’re saying your vows. It’s an oceanfront private estate in Makena that’s built for couples who want something personal, not cookie cutter.

Kukahiku Estates

Why it works:

  • Ocean right at the edge of the property.
  • Private setting, which matters for ceremonies and photos.
  • A layout that can handle a ceremony plus an onsite reception plan.

A couple practical notes:

  • This is a venue where the vendor team matters, you’ll want catering, rentals, and a timeline that fits the space.
  • If you’re bringing a bigger group, nail down logistics early (parking, arrivals, setup.)

Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center (Upcountry, Makawao)

If you want Maui, but not “beach wedding,” Hui No‘eau is a gorgeous change of pace. It’s an Upcountry artist estate with big grounds, historic architecture, and views that feel totally different than the shoreline.

Hui No'eau

Why it’s a great option:

  • Garden and estate atmosphere, lots of natural texture for photos.
  • Works for ceremonies and receptions, with multiple spaces to use.
  • Higher elevation location, which can mean cooler temps than the coast.

Helpful details to keep in mind:

  • They list a maximum event capacity of 250.
  • They require an approved wedding or party planning coordinator, and they have extra requirements once your guest count gets larger.

Quick update on the “old blog post” venues

These names still float around online, but here’s the real deal based on what’s publicly available today.

Haiku Mill

At the moment, Haiku Mill is widely described as currently closed for weddings and events, with permitting being part of the story. It’s still iconic, it’s still talked about, it just isn’t a reliable “go book it” venue right now. We think you need to have a personal relationship with the owners to get married there, since nothing is public since before the fires.

Honua Kai Lani Estate (Sugarman Estate)

This one is a private estate and it’s not consistently marketed like a standard venue. We’re not clear if you can still get married here, so you’ll have to ask a wedding planner. It used to be the best spot on Maui to get married, but things change.

Planning tips that make these venues easier

A few things that help fast, especially for destination weddings:

  • Start with your guest count, it narrows the field immediately.
  • Decide your priority, oceanfront, Upcountry estate, or historic property vibe.
  • Ask early about music rules, end times, and vendor restrictions, those details matter more than the Instagram photos.
  • Book lodging early if your guests are traveling, Maui calendars fill up fast in peak seasons.

Where vacation rentals come in (and why they’re a game changer for wedding groups)

If you’re planning a wedding on Maui, a vacation rental setup usually makes the whole experience better. More room, more privacy, and everyone can actually spend time together outside the wedding day itself.

Vacation rentals are especially helpful for:

  • Wedding parties getting ready, hair, makeup, outfits, photos.
  • Families who want kitchens, laundry, and space to spread out.
  • Groups who want to stay close together in South Maui, with easy access to venues, beaches, and dinner spots.

If you want help matching your venue area with the right place to stay (and the right mix of condos for your group), here at Ali’i Resorts, we can help you line it all up. Call us on island at (808) 879-6284. Photos shot by Natalie Brown Photography.
